Australia-based AirTrunk has signed a letter of intent for land allotment in Maharashtra, where it plans to develop a large-scale data centre with an estimated investment of $21.05 billion, according to the state chief minister in a post on X.

The proposed facility will be located at the Raigad Penn Growth Centre, on the outskirts of Mumbai, and is expected to have a capacity of 3 GW, making it one of the major data infrastructure projects in the region.
AirTrunk is backed by US investment firm Blackstone and already operates data centres across Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore.
The announcement comes as India continues to attract massive global investment in digital infrastructure, supported by tax incentives for companies setting up and operating data centres in the country. US tech firms alone are expected to invest more than $630 billion this year.
At the same time, major Indian conglomerates are also expanding aggressively in AI and data infrastructure. Reliance has announced plans of around $110 billion, while Adani has committed about $100 billion toward similar initiatives.
