Meta Platforms has announced a partnership with Reliance Industries to establish its first AI-enabled data center in India, marking a significant expansion of the US tech giant’s infrastructure in the country.

Under the agreement, Reliance will construct a 168 MW data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat, which Meta will lease with options to expand capacity in the future. The facility is expected to support growing demand for AI and cloud-based services.
Meta said India’s large digital user base and rapidly expanding internet economy make it a strategic market for long-term investment in artificial intelligence and data infrastructure.
The development comes as India’s data center industry continues to grow, with projections estimating the market could nearly double to $13.11 billion by 2034, driven by cloud adoption, digital transformation, and increased AI workloads.
The two companies already share an existing collaboration. Last year, Meta and Reliance formed a joint venture to develop AI tools and enterprise solutions in India using Meta’s Llama models, backed by an initial investment of ₹8.55 billion, with Reliance holding a 70% stake and Meta 30%.
Earlier, in 2020, Meta also invested $5.7 billion in Jio Platforms, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, strengthening its long-term presence in India’s digital ecosystem.
