Tesla saw a strong rise in Model Y sales in India in July, delivering 115 units compared with just 38 units in June. This marks a 203% increase in monthly sales.

The Rs 9 lakh price cut for the Model Y appears to have helped Tesla attract more buyers in India’s luxury electric vehicle market, where demand for the electric SUV had earlier been limited.
Tesla Becomes Third Largest Luxury EV Brand
With 115 Model Ys sold in July, Tesla captured around 16% of India’s luxury electric passenger vehicle market for the month.
BMW India led the segment with 390 units, followed by Mercedes-Benz India with 174 units. Tesla ranked third, ahead of Volvo Auto India, which sold 51 luxury EVs.
Tesla’s total sales in India reached 578 units between September 2025 and July 2026, giving the company an 8% share of the 6,825 luxury EVs sold during the period.
The company also sold another 60 vehicles during the first 16 days of August, taking its total Indian sales beyond 600 units.
Model Y Gets More Attention
Tesla currently sells the Model Y in five-seat and six-seat versions in India.
The models are priced between Rs 50.89 lakh and Rs 61.99 lakh, ex-showroom.
The Premium RWD version gets a 64kWh battery with a claimed WLTP range of 500km, while the Premium Long Range RWD comes with an 84.2kWh battery and a claimed range of 661km.
The six-seat Model Y L comes with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system and a claimed WLTP range of 681km.
Tesla Adds AI Features
The Model Y is also available in India with new artificial intelligence features.
One of the key additions is the Grok AI assistant, which brings AI-based functions to the vehicle.
EV Market Continues To Grow
India recorded a new monthly high of 34,033 electric passenger vehicle registrations in July.
Tesla accounted for only around 0.34% of the overall electric passenger vehicle market during the month, but its growing sales in the luxury EV segment show increasing interest in the Model Y after the price reduction.
