A viral video that claims Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das are endorsing an investment application, which allegedly promises to quadruple users’ investments, has been found to be a deepfake. Channeliam Fact Check investigated the video and confirmed its falsity.
The video shows Nirmala Sitharaman and Shaktikanta Das discussing the app’s safety and returns, but there is no such endorsement from either of them in any of their verified public appearances. A reverse search led to an interview with Nirmala Sitharaman where she discussed government policies, but there was no mention of any investment app. Similarly, a video from an RBI press conference featuring Shaktikanta Das also revealed no connection to the investment claims.
Further analysis of the video using AI detection tools revealed evidence of manipulation. The video’s audio and visuals did not match up with the original recordings, strongly indicating the use of deepfake technology.
The fake video also featured typical scam tactics, such as promises of high returns and links to dubious websites, often used by fraudsters to steal personal information.
Channeliam Fact Check urges viewers to ignore such misleading content and to be wary of potential online scams.
