The Kerala government is introducing private sponsorship opportunities for Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses as part of a broader strategy to improve the corporation’s financial position. The initiative is expected to generate additional non-fare revenue while enhancing public transport services across the state.

The decision comes ahead of the launch of Kerala’s free travel scheme for women on ordinary KSRTC buses. With the scheme likely to increase passenger numbers and place additional pressure on operational finances, the government is exploring alternative revenue models to support the transport utility.

Under the proposed sponsorship model, private companies, institutions, and organizations will be able to associate their brands with KSRTC buses. The government expects this partnership approach to help fund fleet modernization, improve services, and create a sustainable revenue stream beyond ticket collections.

Officials have also indicated that revenue generation will remain a key focus for KSRTC as it balances social welfare initiatives with financial sustainability. The sponsorship model is being viewed as one of several measures aimed at strengthening the corporation’s long-term viability while expanding affordable public transportation across Kerala.
