The annual listing of India’s 100 richest Indians is now live, with a noticeable shift in positions from last lists. Mukesh Ambani has regained his top spot from Gautam Adani. Eight people have dropped off the list including Vedanta’s Anil Agarwal, BYJU’s Byju Raveendran and Info Edge’s Sanjeev Bikhchandani.
Here is the top 10 richest Indians of this year
1. Mukesh Ambani
Reliance industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani has reclaimed his top position this time, with a net worth of $92 billion. Earlier this year, he transformed Reliance Industries into a diversified conglomerate and appointed his three children as board members.
2. Gautam Adani
The top billionaire in last year’s list slipped to the second position with a current net worth of $68 billion. His throne witnessed a notable setback after the controversial Hindenburg Report, causing a drastic dip in his net worth from $82 billion to $68 billion.
3. Shiv Nadar
In the list, Software tycoon Shiv Nadar, Chairman emeritus of HCL Technologies, is placed at the third spot with a wealth of $29.3 billion. The IT pioneer cofounded HCL in a garage in 1976 to make calculators and microprocessors with five friends. Last year, he was in the fifth position.
4. Savitri Jindal
Savitri Jindal, of the O.P. Jindal Group, a power and steel conglomerate, ranked number four with $24 billion, up 46%. She is an Indian businesswoman and also a politician. In the 2022 list, she was ranked sixth.
5. Radhakishan Damani
Fifth position is secured by Radhakishan Shivkishan Damani, who is an Indian billionaire investor, businessperson and the founder of Avenue Supermarts Limited. As per earlier list, his fortune declined to $23 billion from $27.6 billion previously, which resulted in losing his third position from last year.
6. Cyrus Poonawalla
Cyrus S Poonawalla, an Indian billionaire businessman and the Chairman and Managing Director of the Cyrus Poonawalla Group, which includes the Serum Institute of India, an Indian biotech company which is the largest vaccine manufacturer in the world and Poonawalla Fincorp a leading NBFC in India, has secured the sixth position with a net worth of $20.7 billion. Last time, he was at the 4th position with a net worth of $21.5 billion.
7. Hinduja Family
Hinduja Group is an Indian transnational conglomerate spotted at the seventh position with $20 billion. The group is present in eleven sectors including automotive, oil and specialty chemicals, banking and finance, IT and ITeS, cyber security, healthcare, trading, infrastructure project development, media and entertainment, power, and real estate. Last year, the company was at the 8th position with $15.2 billion. Paramanand Deepchand Hinduja started the Hinduja Group in 1914. Today, the four siblings, Srichand, Gopichand, Prakash and Ashok, lead the multinational conglomerate.
8. Dilip Shanghvi
Dilip Shanghvi, an Indian billionaire businessman, who founded Sun Pharmaceuticals secured 8th position in the list this year with $19 billion. The Government of India awarded him the civilian honour of the Padma Shri in 2016. Last year, he was in seventh position.
9. Kumar Birla
In the 9th spot, Kumar Birla, the chairman of the Aditya Birla Group has got placed with $17.5 billion. Birla inherited the Group at the age of 28 when his father, Aditya Birla, died in 1995. Last year also, he was at the ninth position with $15 billion net worth.
10. Shapoor Mistry & Family
Shapoor Mistry and Family made the entry into the Top 10 list of Forbes richest persons, with $16.9 million worth. Shapoor Mistry now leads the Shapoorji Pallonji Group after the death of his father Pallonji Mistry and younger brother Cyrus Mistry earlier in 2022. Last year, the conglomerate was at the 13th spot with $14.2 billion worth.
