India’s electric vehicle market hit a new monthly record in September 2026, with registrations crossing 3.3 lakh units across segments. September marked the fourth consecutive month in which EV registrations remained above the 3-lakh mark, pointing to sustained growth in electric mobility.

Electric two-wheelers led the surge, with registrations reaching a record 2.07 lakh units. TVS Motor recorded around 54,000 units, while Bajaj crossed 48,400. Ather registered about 30,500 units, compared with 19,620 in September last year. Hero, Ola Electric and Greaves also recorded significant volumes.
Electric passenger vehicles also reached a new high of around 36,000 units, nearly double the September 2025 level. Tata Motors remained the market leader with around 14,700 registrations, followed by Mahindra with about 7,700 and JSW MG Motor with more than 5,200 units.
Electric three-wheelers also remained a major contributor, with more than 86,000 registrations in September, compared with about 61,400 in the same month last year. The broader growth is being supported by a wider range of EV models, improving charging infrastructure and rising consumer acceptance.
The latest numbers suggest India’s EV market is moving into a higher-volume phase, with electric vehicles gaining ground across two-wheelers, passenger vehicles and commercial segments.
