India’s private space sector has achieved a historic milestone with the successful launch of Skyroot Aerospace’s Vikram-1. The rocket lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota as part of Mission Aagaman and successfully reached Low Earth Orbit.
The mission marks a major breakthrough for India’s commercial space industry. Vikram-1 is the first privately developed orbital-class rocket from an Indian company to successfully reach space, demonstrating the growing capabilities of the country’s private spacetech ecosystem.

The successful launch proves that Indian startups can independently design, develop and launch orbital-class rockets. It could also pave the way for future commercial missions carrying small satellites for domestic and international customers.
Founded by former ISRO engineers Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka, Skyroot previously made history with the Vikram-S suborbital mission in 2022. With the successful launch of Vikram-1, the company has now taken a major step towards establishing India as a key player in the global commercial space launch market.
The achievement marks a new chapter for India’s private space journey and could accelerate the growth of the country’s commercial launch industry.
