Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate key sections of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway to the nation, marking a major milestone in India’s road infrastructure expansion. The new expressway is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi, Punjab and Jammu, while improving connectivity for passengers, pilgrims and businesses.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate 157.92 km of the four-lane Greenfield expressway, covering Packages 1 to 5, built at an estimated cost of ₹9,680 crore. He will later inaugurate the 30.9 km Package 6 section in Jalandhar, Punjab.
Part of the 667-km Delhi-Amritsar-Katra corridor, the expressway is expected to reduce the journey time between Delhi and Katra from around 14 hours to nearly six hours. The Delhi-Amritsar travel time is also expected to come down from about eight hours to approximately four hours.
The project will provide faster access to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, ease pressure on the existing NH-44 route and strengthen logistics connectivity between major economic centres in northern India.
Boost to Trade, Industry and Tourism
The expressway is designed to support industrial growth by improving freight movement and reducing transportation delays. Better road connectivity between Delhi, Punjab and Jammu is expected to benefit businesses, manufacturing units, logistics operators and local economies along the corridor.
The project is also expected to provide a major boost to religious tourism, especially for devotees travelling to the Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra.
India’s First Hydrogen-Powered Train Launch
During his visit to Haryana, PM Modi will also flag off India’s first hydrogen-powered train on the Jind-Sonipat route. Developed using indigenous technology, the 10-coach, 3,200 HP train uses hydrogen fuel cells to generate electricity, with water vapour as the only emission.
With this launch, India will join a select group of countries operating hydrogen-powered trains, marking a step towards cleaner and greener transportation.
Major Infrastructure Push Across States
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate and lay foundation stones for multiple infrastructure projects worth thousands of crores across Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh.
In Haryana, projects include National Highway developments, railway infrastructure upgrades, medical colleges and cultural projects. In Chandigarh, new healthcare, education and road infrastructure projects will be launched, including advanced medical facilities at PGIMER.
In Punjab, PM Modi will inaugurate redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, new rail services and additional road connectivity projects.
The Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway and related infrastructure initiatives reflect the government’s focus on building faster transport networks, improving regional connectivity and strengthening India’s economic corridors.
