Cisco plans to expand its silicon design team in India as the technology company looks to strengthen its presence in one of its key growth markets. Cisco Chairman and CEO Chuck Robbins said India offers significant opportunities because of its talent pool, engineering capabilities, manufacturing capacity and economic growth.

Robbins said Cisco already has silicon design resources in the United States and Israel, while its team in India remains relatively small. The company sees considerable scope to expand its Indian team by identifying and hiring skilled professionals.
The expansion comes as India steps up efforts to strengthen its semiconductor ecosystem. The government’s Semiconductor 2.0 initiative includes measures to support different parts of the semiconductor value chain, including chip design capabilities.
Robbins also said Cisco plans to introduce its suite of sovereign critical technology solutions in India over the coming months. The company has already rolled out these offerings in Europe and Canada.
According to Robbins, the United States remains Cisco’s largest market, while India and the Middle East are its next major growth areas outside America. He said India has remained strategically important to Cisco because of its market scale, engineering focus and manufacturing capabilities.
The planned expansion of the silicon design team and the upcoming technology rollout underline Cisco’s focus on India’s growing role in its global business and technology strategy.
