The Indian Navy’s INS Sanshodhak, the fourth and final Survey Vessel (Large) in its class, has officially joined the Southern Naval Command at its home port in Kochi. The induction marks another milestone in India’s drive to strengthen indigenous naval capabilities and maritime infrastructure.

Designed by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), INS Sanshodhak is equipped with advanced hydrographic and oceanographic survey systems. The vessel will undertake seabed mapping, nautical charting, coastal surveys and environmental data collection to support safe navigation and maritime operations.
The ship also features Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and state-of-the-art survey equipment, enabling precise underwater exploration and data gathering for both civilian and strategic applications.
With INS Sanshodhak joining the Southern Naval Command, the Indian Navy further enhances its maritime domain awareness, coastal security and hydrographic capabilities, supporting India’s broader vision of becoming a stronger maritime power in the Indian Ocean Region.
