India has secured a major defence export breakthrough, with Indonesia set to procure BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles and Astra beyond-visual-range air-to-air missiles. The announcement came during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jakarta, highlighting the growing strategic partnership between the two countries.

The BrahMos missile, jointly developed by India and Russia, is among the world’s fastest operational supersonic cruise missiles. Capable of being launched from land, sea and air platforms, it is known for its speed, precision and versatility, making it one of India’s flagship defence exports.
Indonesia will also acquire the Astra missile, India’s indigenously developed beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile designed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The missile significantly enhances aerial combat capabilities and is already integrated with the Indian Air Force.
The twin missile deal is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s defence preparedness while reinforcing India’s emergence as a trusted supplier of advanced military systems. It also marks another milestone in India’s efforts to expand defence exports and deepen strategic partnerships across the Indo-Pacific region.
