Bangladesh-born Australian billionaire Robin Khuda is spearheading a massive $30 billion investment plan in India’s rapidly expanding data centre industry through AirTrunk, the Blackstone-backed hyperscale data centre operator. The investment aims to develop more than 5 gigawatts of data centre capacity across the country by 2030.

AirTrunk entered the Indian market in 2026 through the acquisition of Lumina CloudInfra, securing an initial development pipeline of 600 MW across key data centre hubs including Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad. The company plans to expand further as demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure accelerates.
Born and raised in Dhaka, Robin Khuda moved to Australia in 1997, where he studied accounting and later built a career in telecommunications and digital infrastructure before founding AirTrunk. Today, he is regarded as one of the Asia-Pacific region’s leading data centre entrepreneurs, with an estimated net worth of $2.1 billion.
The proposed investment is among the largest digital infrastructure commitments currently planned in India and comes amid a broader surge in AI-driven data centre development. Global and domestic players are investing billions of dollars as India positions itself as a major hub for cloud services, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure.
Industry experts believe India’s growing internet economy, AI adoption, favourable policy environment, and rising demand for computing power are making the country one of the world’s most attractive destinations for large-scale data centre investments.
