Global logistics company RSA Global has announced plans to develop India’s largest automated empty container yard at Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JN Port), with a proposed investment of ₹2,580 crore. The project is expected to significantly enhance container handling capacity and improve operational efficiency at the country’s busiest container gateway.

The facility will focus on the storage, maintenance, repair and management of empty shipping containers using advanced automation technologies. Automated storage and retrieval systems are expected to improve space utilization, speed up container movement and reduce operational bottlenecks.
JN Port handles a substantial share of India’s container traffic and has been actively expanding infrastructure to support growing trade volumes. The new automated yard is expected to reduce congestion, streamline logistics operations and improve turnaround times for exporters and importers.
The project aligns with India’s broader push to modernize port infrastructure, strengthen multimodal logistics networks and lower supply-chain costs. Advanced digital systems, automation and real-time container tracking are expected to play a key role in the facility’s operations.
Industry experts view the investment as a major step toward creating world-class logistics infrastructure and enhancing India’s competitiveness in global trade. Once operational, the yard is expected to become a critical component of the country’s maritime and container logistics ecosystem.
