Sundar Pichai’s journey from Chennai to the top of Google’s global leadership is marked by a strong academic foundation and years of professional growth.
Pichai was born in Chennai and completed his early education at Jawahar Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School in Ashok Nagar. He later attended Vana Vani School on the IIT Madras campus.
He went on to study Metallurgical Engineering at IIT Kharagpur, where he developed a strong foundation in engineering and technology.
After graduating from IIT, Pichai moved to the United States for higher education. He earned a Master of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University, followed by an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
His education combined engineering, advanced technology and business management—skills that would later prove valuable in his corporate career.
Pichai joined Google in 2004, initially working on products including the Google Toolbar and later becoming closely associated with the development of Google Chrome.
Over the years, he took on increasingly senior roles across Google’s product portfolio. His leadership in products such as Chrome and Android helped establish him as one of the company’s key executives.
In 2015, Pichai became CEO of Google, succeeding Larry Page. When Alphabet was created as Google’s parent company, Pichai eventually became CEO of Alphabet as well, placing him at the helm of one of the world’s most influential technology companies.
