IKEA has opened its fourth global product development centre in India, adding to its existing hubs in Sweden, China, and Vietnam.

The new centre will focus on designing affordable home furnishing products tailored to Indian consumers while also developing solutions for global markets. According to Oskar Lindkvist, who heads the centre, India is evolving from being primarily a sourcing destination to becoming an important product development and export hub for IKEA worldwide.
The facility has already developed around 150 products, with another 220 currently in the pipeline. By leveraging local materials, design expertise, and manufacturing capabilities, IKEA aims to create cost-effective products that integrate seamlessly into its global supply chain.
Currently, nearly 30% of IKEA products sold in India are sourced locally. The company plans to increase that figure to 50% in the coming years as part of its localisation strategy.
India already supplies around $400 million worth of products to IKEA annually, with a significant share exported to international markets, reinforcing the country’s growing role in the retailer’s global sourcing and innovation network.
