Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked his council of ministers to focus on long-term planning with a clear target of 2047, when India completes 100 years of independence, according to PTI reports.

At a nearly three-and-a-half-hour meeting, he said the government’s priority should be next-generation reforms that can steadily improve everyday life and make governance more people-friendly. He stressed that the goal should be overall national development by 2047 through continuous policy changes and structural reforms.
Modi also highlighted that governance should focus on “ease of living,” ensuring that citizens face minimal interference from the state and can access services more smoothly. He reportedly told ministers that improving daily convenience for people must remain the central objective of all government work.
The meeting, held shortly after his return from a five-nation diplomatic tour, also addressed concerns around global energy disruptions linked to tensions in West Asia. He encouraged ministers to explore alternative energy sources in response to potential supply risks.
According to reports, this was the first full council of ministers meeting of the year and included Cabinet ministers, ministers of state with independent charge, and other ministers of state.
Several presentations were made during the session. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar briefed the council on the Prime Minister’s recent foreign visits to the UAE, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy. Senior officials and secretaries also presented updates on ministry performance and key initiatives, while Cabinet Secretary T.V. Somanathan and NITI Aayog member Rajiv Gauba shared broader governance and reform updates.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the focus should be on future goals rather than past achievements, urging ministers to ensure faster execution and reduce delays in government work. He also emphasized that citizens should benefit fully from welfare schemes without administrative bottlenecks.
The meeting followed recent electoral gains for the BJP and NDA in several states, and comes as the government continues to push its broader reform agenda under what it calls a long-term “Reform Express” vision.
