Prime Minister Narendra Modi has firmly rejected reports suggesting that the government is planning any tax, cess, or surcharge on foreign travel. He called the claims “completely false” and said there is no discussion at any level on introducing such measures.

The clarification came after a social media post circulated a graphic alleging that the government was considering a temporary levy on overseas travel to manage fiscal pressure linked to rising crude oil prices and global tensions. Modi said the claims had “no truth whatsoever” and should not be believed.
In his post on X, he stressed that the government remains focused on improving the “Ease of Doing Business” and “Ease of Living” for citizens, not adding new travel restrictions or costs.
Before his response, the Ministry of Finance had not issued any official statement on the matter.
