Shikshagraha, a people-led education movement supported by Infosys co-founder SD Shibulal and Kumari Shibulal, has partnered with Teach For India to expand efforts to improve public schools across the country.
Teach For India has joined Shikshagraha as a momentum partner, bringing its experience in developing teachers and education leaders to the movement.
Focus on Public School Improvement
The partnership combines Teach For India’s classroom-based leadership model with Shikshagraha’s network of governments, civil society organisations and local communities.
Shikshagraha aims to strengthen one million public schools across India. The movement says it has already brought together more than 3.9 lakh leaders across 2.1 lakh public schools.
Its network currently includes more than 40 civil society organisations across 16 states.
Shikshagraha also says more than 15.6 lakh micro-improvements have been carried out in public schools, with nearly 45,000 changes directly driven by communities.
Teach For India to Support Leadership
With Teach For India joining the network, the partnership will focus on leadership development, the Fellows and Alumni network, and sharing successful ideas and experiences from classrooms and communities.
Teach For India’s Fellowship places young professionals as full-time teachers in low-income schools for two years. Its Alumni network continues to work in areas including education, development and governance.
Khushboo Awasthi, Chief Curator of Shikshagraha, said improving public education requires the collective effort of millions of people who are willing to act, learn and improve together.
Teach For India CEO Shaheen Mistri said the organisation’s Fellows and Alumni have shown how collective leadership can support education improvement, while Shikshagraha provides a larger platform to connect this work with a national movement.
Scaling Education Solutions
The partnership comes as India’s public education system increasingly focuses on learning outcomes, teacher capacity, community participation and scaling successful education initiatives.
Shikshagraha is anchored by Mantra4Change and ShikshaLokam and supported by the Shibulal Family Philanthropic Initiatives.
