Reliance Foundation has announced plans to establish a 100-acre lifelong care township at Karjat, near Mumbai, for more than 5,000 people, including orphaned children, senior citizens and persons with developmental disabilities.

Named Nita Mukesh Ambani Anant Ashray, the proposed project was announced by Nita Ambani, Founder and Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, on November 1, 2026. She performed the Bhumi Pujan and groundbreaking ceremony at the proposed site.
The initiative is envisioned as a permanent, not-for-profit institution offering residential care, specialised healthcare, education, rehabilitation and employment opportunities. It will be developed in phases, subject to the necessary approvals.
A community for 5,000 residents
The township is designed to provide a lifelong home to more than 5,000 residents. Along with caregivers, medical professionals, support staff and their families, it is expected to support a community of approximately 15,000 people.
The proposed development will comprise eight residential villages, each named after a sacred river of India. Each village will have its own colour, symbol and sensory garden to help residents navigate their surroundings.
Residents will live in small, family-style homes supported by dedicated house parents and caregivers. Individual care and development plans will cover healthcare, education, skills, employment, relationships and personal well-being.
Healthcare, education and rehabilitation
The proposed township will bring together specialised medical services and rehabilitation facilities. These will include developmental medicine, epilepsy care, special-needs dentistry, palliative care, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and hydrotherapy.
Other planned facilities include:
- A specialised hospital and dedicated hospice wing.
- Inclusive educational facilities and a mainstream school for staff members’ children.
- Sports, recreation, music, art and sensory activity spaces.
- An animal companionship farm developed with expertise from Vantara.
- A garden of remembrance and family respite homes.
Skills and employment opportunities
The project will also focus on helping residents develop practical skills and participate in meaningful work. A bakery, café and craft studios are planned as vocational training and employment centres.
A national training academy is also proposed to strengthen India’s disability-care workforce through specialised training and capacity building.
Support for neighbouring communities
Anant Ashray is also expected to extend its services beyond the township. Its hospital, temple, sports facilities and café are envisioned to serve neighbouring villages.
Around 1,000 people from the surrounding region are expected to access therapy, education and employment opportunities. Respite care, outreach programmes and mobile medical clinics will extend support to families and communities in nearby districts.
The initiative is rooted in Reliance Foundation’s ‘We Care’ philosophy. It aims to provide long-term support to people who need specialised care while offering families greater security and peace of mind about their loved ones’ future.
