The Union Territory of Lakshadweep has eased its tourist entry regulations, simplifying the permit process in an effort to make the islands more accessible to visitors while maintaining security standards.

According to a fresh circular issued by the island administration on Wednesday, tourists will no longer need a local sponsor to apply for entry permits. The earlier requirement of submitting police clearance certificates from the applicant’s home state has also been removed.
Under the revised system, security verification will now be conducted directly by the Lakshadweep Police after the application is submitted, streamlining the approval process.
The changes are intended to encourage higher tourist inflow while ensuring that necessary security checks remain in place. However, travellers are still required to apply at least 14 days in advance and clearly mention the islands they plan to visit along with their travel dates.
Authorities have also made it mandatory for applicants to list all intended destinations within Lakshadweep, as entry will be restricted strictly to islands specified in the approved permit.
Transit between islands will be permitted only through Kavaratti or Agatti, and stops will be limited to a maximum duration of 12 hours.
Officials have advised travellers to confirm their entry permits before booking flight tickets in order to avoid cancellations or travel disruptions.
