Reliance Industries is planning to transform its Jamnagar refinery into the world’s first fully autonomous refinery using artificial intelligence and digital technologies, according to Executive Director Anant Ambani. He made the announcement during the company’s 49th Annual General Meeting (AGM).

He said the move comes as part of Reliance’s broader strategy to strengthen efficiency and resilience in its oil-to-chemicals (O2C) business, even amid global energy market uncertainties, including disruptions around the Hormuz Strait. The company has continued to grow its O2C revenues and operating profits while advancing new initiatives.
The goal is to develop Jamnagar into an end-to-end self-governing refinery powered by AI, improving operational efficiency and reinforcing Reliance’s leadership in the refining sector.
Anant Ambani also highlighted that AI and digital tools are already being used across the company’s operations. These include an AI-based platform that helps identify optimal crude oil blends, a digital logistics system that streamlines supply chains and shipping, and smart contract execution tools that enhance customer interactions and operational efficiency.
