Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has confirmed it is fully prepared to move ahead with the development of the Agni-6 missile, awaiting final approval from the central government.

DRDO Chairman Samir V. Kamat stated that the organisation is technically ready, but the programme depends on a policy decision by the government.
The Agni-6 is expected to be India’s most advanced intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), offering significantly longer range and enhanced capabilities compared to previous Agni series missiles.
Reports suggest it could feature MIRV technology (Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicles), allowing a single missile to carry multiple warheads aimed at different targets, strengthening India’s strategic deterrence.
With an anticipated range possibly extending up to 10,000–12,000 km, Agni-6 would mark a major leap in India’s long-range strike capability and global reach.
The development reflects India’s broader push toward advanced defence technologies, including hypersonic weapons and next-generation missile systems, as part of its evolving national security strategy.
