Toyota is preparing to expand its SUV portfolio in India with two global models, the Land Cruiser FJ and Corolla Cross, as the automaker steps up its focus on locally manufactured vehicles.
The Land Cruiser FJ is expected to be positioned below the Fortuner and could arrive in India around 2027–28. The rugged SUV is aimed at buyers looking for a more compact off-road-focused model within Toyota’s Land Cruiser family.
The Corolla Cross, meanwhile, is expected to enter the Indian market around 2028–29. The SUV is likely to feature hybrid technology, premium equipment and advanced safety features, with local production planned at Toyota’s upcoming manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.
Toyota has announced a new manufacturing plant at the Bidkin Industrial Area in Maharashtra, where production is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2029. An all-new SUV will be the first model manufactured at the facility, although Toyota has not yet officially confirmed which model it will be.
The upcoming launches are part of Toyota’s broader India strategy, with the company planning several locally manufactured models by 2029. The expansion is expected to strengthen Toyota’s presence across India’s growing SUV market.
