A Japanese delegation visited Kandla in Gujarat to explore opportunities in shipbuilding and ship repair, signaling growing international interest in India’s maritime sector.

The delegation held discussions with officials from the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) to understand the port’s infrastructure, operational capacity, and expansion plans.
Kandla is being positioned as a key maritime hub under India’s port-led development strategy, aligned with initiatives like the National Shipbuilding Mission and Maritime India Vision.
During the visit, the team conducted site inspections at proposed shipyard locations in Kandla and nearby areas to evaluate feasibility and logistics.
Officials highlighted that such collaborations could bring advanced technology, investment, and expertise, while boosting employment and supporting ancillary industries.
The engagement reflects a broader push to position India as a global hub for shipbuilding and repair, with further discussions expected after detailed feasibility assessments.
