The Tamil Nadu government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vikram Solar to establish a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Gangaikondan, Tirunelveli district. The project will involve an investment of ₹15,037 crore and is expected to create around 2,670 direct and indirect jobs.

The agreement was signed at the State Secretariat during an event organised by the Department of Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce in the presence of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
The proposed facility marks Vikram Solar’s expansion into advanced battery energy storage manufacturing, complementing its existing solar manufacturing operations in the state. The company was represented at the signing by Chairman and Managing Director Gyanesh Chaudhary, Chief Executive Officer Arun Mittal, and Capital Investment Project Director Ashwini Agarwal.
Vikram Solar already operates two solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing facilities in Oragadam and Vallam, besides an integrated solar PV cell and module manufacturing complex at Gangaikondan. The new BESS plant is expected to further strengthen the company’s manufacturing footprint in Tamil Nadu while supporting the increasing demand for energy storage solutions alongside renewable energy deployment.
According to the state government, the investment reinforces Tamil Nadu’s strategy of attracting large-scale clean energy manufacturing projects and expanding its industrial ecosystem.
The MoU signing ceremony was also attended by Industries Minister S. Keerthana, Chief Secretary M. Saikumar, senior government officials and representatives of Vikram Solar.
