The Ministry of Defence on December 30, 2025, signed contracts worth ₹4,666 crore for the procurement of Close Quarter Battle (CQB) Carbines for the Indian Army and Navy, and Heavyweight Torpedoes for the Indian Navy. The agreements were inked in New Delhi at South Block in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.

Under the first contract, over 4.25 lakh CQB Carbines with accessories, valued at ₹2,770 crore, will be supplied by Bharat Forge Ltd and PLR Systems Pvt Ltd. These indigenously manufactured carbines will replace legacy small arms, offering a compact design, high rate of fire, and enhanced lethality for close-combat and confined-space operations. The project highlights the growing collaboration between the government and private sector, supporting the Make in India initiative, boosting employment, strengthening MSMEs, and enhancing India’s indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem.
The second contract, worth around ₹1,896 crore, was signed with WASS Submarine Systems S.R.L., Italy, for 48 Heavyweight Torpedoes and related equipment for the Indian Navy’s Kalvari Class (Project-75) submarines. Delivery is scheduled to begin in April 2028 and conclude by early 2030. The advanced torpedoes will significantly improve the combat capabilities of the Navy’s six submarines under the class, enhancing India’s underwater warfare strength.
These acquisitions reinforce the government’s focus on modernising the Armed Forces with advanced technologies and niche capabilities. In the financial year 2025–26, the Ministry of Defence has signed capital acquisition contracts worth ₹1,82,492 crore, underscoring sustained efforts in modernisation and indigenisation of India’s defence sector.
