Krutrim, an artificial intelligence (AI) startup launched by Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal, has introduced a standalone Android app for its eponymous AI chatbot, aiming to take on competitors such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Microsoft’s Copilot, as reported by Moneycontrol.
The mobile app launch coincides with Krutrim’s plans to unveil developer offerings, including cloud infrastructure and mapping services via Ola Maps, on May 4. The company initially launched its AI chatbot in public beta in February, following an announcement in December. This chatbot, powered by multilingual large language models (LLM) developed by Krutrim, assists users in over 10 Indian languages, with plans to support all 22 languages by 2024.
Krutrim, unveiled in December 2023, attained unicorn status earlier this year after securing $50 million in funding, led by Matrix Partners India. Positioned as a versatile chat assistant, the Krutrim app facilitates content generation, provides answers to user queries, and offers updates on various topics.
Previously integrated within Ola’s ride-hailing app, Krutrim’s standalone version enhances accessibility, with an iOS counterpart expected soon. Beyond chatbots, Krutrim aims to build a comprehensive AI computing stack, including Krutrim Cloud, set to launch today, providing advanced GPU resources and managed access to open-source AI models.
In competition with established cloud service providers like Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, Krutrim emphasizes an “India-first cost structure” as a key differentiator. Ola Maps, part of Krutrim’s ecosystem, offers navigation SDKs, dynamic maps, and optimized routing, bolstered by the acquisition of GeoSpoc.
Krutrim’s multilingual large language models (LLMs), available in base and pro versions, boast advanced capabilities, including multimodal understanding and extensive knowledge of Indian languages and culture. The company aims to outshine competitors like OpenAI’s GPT-4 in Indic language performance while venturing into silicon design and AI infrastructure development.
With its innovative offerings and strategic expansions, Krutrim positions itself as a formidable player in the AI landscape, poised for further growth and innovation.
