Audi says high taxation regime restricts the Indian luxury car segment’s growth.
The government should lower the levies to help the sector grow, it said.
The luxury segment went up to 40,000 units a year and stayed in that range, an official said.
“And, this year, we can end up even lower than that,” the official said.
The company asked govt to reduce the duties.
Apart from 28% GST, there is cess.
Audi asked to take off this cess and keep registration costs reasonable.
Luxury vehicles currently attract the top GST slab of 28%.
Additional cess of 20% on sedans and 22% on
SUVs will take total tax incidence to 50%.
