NHAI to Build Link Between Expressway and NH 75

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is proposing the construction of an 18-kilometre link road to connect the Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway with the Bengaluru–Kolar Highway (NH 75). This move is aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and easing travel, especially for commuters heading towards the Andhra Pradesh border.

Current Status of the Expressway

At present, a 68-kilometre section of the Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway in Karnataka, from Hoskote to Bethamangala (KGF), is operational. However, the remaining segments in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are still under construction, resulting in partial access and limited connectivity.

Link Road to Boost Traffic and Economic Activity

NHAI officials believe the proposed connector will improve traffic flow and allow for more efficient toll collection. It is also expected to boost economic growth and generate employment in nearby regions. Presently, commuters rely on narrow village and district roads after exiting the expressway at Bethamangala.

Upgrading Local Roads to Strengthen Access

The plan includes proposals to upgrade local roads between Sundarapalya and Mulbagal, providing a smoother transition to NH 75. This upgrade is set to strengthen the transportation network and improve accessibility for regional traffic.

Traffic on the Rise

The operational stretch of the expressway already sees a daily traffic volume of 1,800 to 2,000 vehicles. With the proposed link and further developments, traffic numbers are expected to increase, further underscoring the need for enhanced infrastructure.
