NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, fresh from her 278-day stay on the International Space Station (ISS), spoke about the breathtaking views of India from space. As she orbited the Earth, she often looked down at the subcontinent, capturing stunning images and marveling at its diverse landscapes.

The Magnificence of the Himalayas

Williams described the Himalayas as one of the most striking sights from space. She explained how the mountain range looked like a ripple, flowing down into India. Each time the ISS passed over the region, she and her fellow astronauts took incredible pictures of the towering peaks and vast landscapes.

India’s Unique Beauty from Orbit

Beyond the Himalayas, Williams observed India’s rich topography, from lush green plains to expansive deserts. She noted how the country’s landscape changed with the seasons, highlighting its geographical diversity. The colors of India—its rivers, mountains, and coastlines—stood out clearly from space, making it a fascinating sight.

A Personal Connection to India

As the daughter of an Indian-origin father, Williams felt a deep connection to the country. She expressed admiration for India’s beauty and its democratic values, affirming that she plans to visit soon.

Her experience offers a unique astronaut’s perspective, emphasizing how extraordinary India looks from space.
