Pune-based Vayve Mobility has introduced India’s first solar-powered electric vehicle (EV), the Eva, at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025 in New Delhi.
Priced at ₹3.25 lakh (Dh14,000), the Eva features a sunroof capable of generating about 1 kWh of energy daily under typical Indian conditions. Bookings are now open with a token amount of ₹5,000, and deliveries are expected to begin in late 2026.
A Focus on Urban Mobility
Vayve Mobility’s primary goal is to make car ownership more accessible in India, particularly targeting urban mobility. The Eva is a compact city car designed for easy maneuverability through urban traffic. It seats two adults (including the driver) and a child, with a narrow body for navigating busy streets.
Variants and Features
The Eva comes in three variants: Nova, Stella, and Vega. All variants offer battery pack options ranging from 9 kWh to 18 kWh, ensuring a range of 125-250 kilometers on a full charge. The car comes equipped with air conditioning and includes a 3-year/80,000 km warranty for the vehicle, along with a 5-year battery warranty.
Innovative Charging and Range
The Nova variant features fast charging capabilities, allowing it to charge from 10% to 70% using a DC charger. Vayve Mobility claims a real-world range of up to 250 kilometers with moderate AC usage. The solar panel contributes an additional 10-12 kilometers of range under ideal conditions, translating to up to 3,000 kilometers of sun-powered driving annually.
Expanding the EV Lineup
In addition to the Eva, Vayve Mobility also launched the CT5, an electric taxi designed to carry five passengers.
Technological Advancements
The Eva features a monocoque chassis and comes with over-the-air (OTA) updates, a vehicle diagnostics system, and smartphone connectivity, offering a modern and practical solution for urban commuters.
