In 2022, India lost some of its business veterans. From Rakesh Jhunjhunwala to former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry, the demises of some of the greatest minds have left a deep void in India’s business scenario. As the year concludes, Channeliam remembers the entrepreneurs who departed leaving a great legacy.

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala:

Known as the ‘Warren Buffet of India’, Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, one of India’s richest business persons, passed away on August 14, 2022, just a few days after launching his dream project Akasa Airline.

Cyrus Mistry:

Former Tata Sons Chairman Cyrus Mistry died in a car accident that happened at Palghar district in Maharashtra on September 4, 2022. The 54-year-old Mistry was travelling from Udvada in Gujarat to Mumbai. His sudden demise put the future of the theShampoorji Pallaonji Group at stake.

Vikram Kirloskar:

Vikram Kirloskar, Vice President of Toyota Kirloskar, left this world on November 30. He was the mastermind behind bringing the Japanese brand Toyota Motor Corporation to India in the late 1990s.

Pallonji Mistry:

Chairman of Shampoorji Pallaonji Group, one of the richest business empires in India, Pallonji Mistry passed away on June 28, a few months ago the death of Cyrus Mistry. The group is the largest shareholder in Tata Group with 18.37 per cent.

Jamshad Jiji Irani:

J.J. Irani, better known as the ‘steelman of India’, died in November. The 86-year-old was the MD of Tata Steel and played a key role in making Tata steel affordable and high-quality.

Rahul Bajaj:

Rahul Bajaj, who led the Bajaj Group for about four decades, died on February 12. A key figure in uplifting Bajaj, during his time, the company’s turnover rose to 12,000 crores from 7.2 crores.

Tulsi Tanti:

Founder of Suzlon Energy, Tulsi Tanti died on October 1. He was the first to introduce renewable energy in India.

Susheel Kumar Jain:

Founder of Panacea Biotec, a leading vaccine maker, Susheel Kumar Jain passed away on October 7 at the age of 89.

Areez Khambatta

Areez Khambatta:

Founder and Chairman of Rasna Group, Areez Khambatta died on November 19. He was 85 years old. The Indian brand Rasna competed with global brands such as Coco Cola and Pepsi and went on to become India’s most-favoured drink.

These giants may have gone. But, there is no doubt that the lessons they imparted will continue to inspire the coming generations.
