India-Japan bilateral trade could rise to $50 billion by 2030 from $27.47 billion in FY2025-26, according to an ASSOCHAM report.

The report highlights higher-value and diversified exports as critical to achieving the target, along with deeper business engagement and stronger market access.
India needs to increase its share of Japan’s imports by expanding exports across sectors and moving beyond traditional products. Emerging opportunities include advanced manufacturing, electronics, semiconductors, digital technologies and other high-value industries.
The push comes as India seeks to strengthen economic ties with Japan and attract greater Japanese investment and localisation in India.
A stronger focus on high-value exports could help narrow the trade gap while positioning India as a more competitive partner in Japan’s supply chains.
