As Rishi Sunak scripts history by becoming the first Indian-origin to become the Prime Minister of Britain, it is also an ode to the willpower of a self-made youngster. Rishi and his wife Ashata have a combined asset of more than 700 million pounds. Besides the palace in Yorkshire, they have some other assets in Kensington, Central London. In Infosys, Ashata has a share of 0.93 per cent in her name. Rishi and his wife hold the 222nd position on the list of Britain’s richest people.

As the Prime Minister of Britain, Rishi’s major focus will be solving the financial struggles the country faces now. In Britain, the inflation rate is more than 10 per cent due to rising energy tariffs and food costs. Europe is grappling with health concerns and the Russia-Ukraine war. The new PM is likely to continue providing support to Ukraine. This year, Britain helped Ukraine with 2.6 billion dollars. When it comes to foreign affairs, interestingly, Rishi called China the No 1 threat to global security. At the same time, Rishi is yet to make a clear stance on allowing visas to fill blue-collar jobs in the UK.

Rishi Sunak’s roots belong to Punjab. They first migrated to Eastern Africa. In the 1960s, his ancestors migrated to the UK. Rishi was born in Southampton on May 12, 1980, as the son of pharmacist Usha Sunak and National Health Service doctor Yashvir Sunak. After studying at Winchester College, in 2001, he completed studies in politics and economics at Lincoln College, Oxford. In 2006, he did MBA at Stanford University as a Fulbright scholar. Between 2001 and 2004 he worked as an analyst at the investment bank Goldman Sachs. He has also worked in the hedge fund management firm The Children’s Investment Fund Management. In 2006, he became the firm’s partner. In 2010, he joined Theleme Partners.

In 2014, at the age of 33, he forayed into politics through the conservative party. In 2015, he was selected as the Member of the Parliament for Richmond in Yorkshire. He was the Minister of Housing, Communities, and Local Government in Theresa May’s ministry and Treasury Minister in the Boris Johnson ministry.

Rishi also visits Bengaluru with his family. He is the son-in-law of Infosys founders N.R. Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murthy. He met his wife Ashata Murthy during his time at Stanford. The couple has two daughters – Anushka and Krishna.
