Hooghly Cochin Shipyard Limited (Hooghly CSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), has secured a repeat order from Heritage River Journeys Private Limited, which operates under the Antara River Cruises brand, to construct two luxury river cruise vessels. The order was disclosed in a stock exchange filing by Cochin Shipyard.

The contract falls under CSL’s “Notable” order category, valued between ₹100 crore and ₹250 crore. The two vessels are scheduled for delivery in June 2029 and June 2030, respectively. The exact contract value has not been disclosed.
Repeat Order Builds on Earlier Cruise Vessel Deal
The latest contract follows an earlier order placed by Heritage River Journeys in June 2025 for two luxury river cruise vessels to operate on the Brahmaputra River. The repeat order indicates continued business between the cruise operator and the shipbuilder in the specialised river cruise segment.
Antara River Cruises operates luxury journeys along major river systems, including the Ganga, Padma and Brahmaputra. Its flagship vessel, Ganga Vilas, is known for its long river cruise itinerary spanning more than 3,200 kilometres across 27 rivers.
Boost for India’s Inland Waterway Tourism
The order adds to Hooghly CSL’s work in inland waterway vessel construction and supports the development of India’s domestic shipbuilding capabilities. River cruise vessels are also part of the broader effort to expand tourism across the country’s extensive network of rivers and waterways.
For Cochin Shipyard, the repeat contract strengthens its presence in specialised vessel construction through its Hooghly subsidiary, while supporting the wider push for indigenous shipbuilding under the Make in India initiative.
