Indra Nooyi’s rise from Chennai to becoming one of the world’s most respected business leaders is a remarkable story of vision, resilience and leadership. An alumna of Madras Christian College, IIM Calcutta and Yale University, Nooyi joined PepsiCo in 1994 after holding leadership roles at Motorola and ABB. She became the company’s CEO in 2006 and Chairperson in 2007, making history as the first woman of colour to lead a Fortune 500 company.
During her 12-year tenure as CEO, Nooyi transformed PepsiCo through bold strategic decisions. She played a pivotal role in expanding the company’s global footprint and strengthening its portfolio through acquisitions such as Tropicana and Quaker Oats, which brought Gatorade into the PepsiCo family. These moves helped the company diversify beyond soft drinks and become a leader in multiple food and beverage categories.

Nooyi also introduced the landmark “Performance with Purpose” strategy, focusing on healthier products, sustainability, environmental responsibility and long-term value creation. Under her leadership, PepsiCo invested heavily in innovation, reduced its environmental footprint and repositioned itself for changing consumer preferences while delivering strong financial performance.
Today, Indra Nooyi is regarded as one of the most influential executives in global business. A recipient of the Padma Bhushan, she continues to serve on the boards of leading global organisations and remains an inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs, women leaders and management professionals worldwide.
