The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has expanded its digital local pass facility to 121 toll plazas across the country, allowing eligible residents to apply for monthly toll passes through the RajmargYatra app.
Residents living within 20 km of a toll plaza can apply for the pass for non-commercial vehicles. The online process uses DigiLocker for address verification, VAHAN for vehicle details and linked FASTag credentials, eliminating the need for physical visits and paperwork.
Under the National Highway user fee rules, the monthly local pass costs ₹350 and allows eligible commuters to cross their designated toll plaza without paying the regular toll each time.
The initiative is part of NHAI’s move towards digital and barrier-free tolling. The digital local pass was first introduced at the Mundka-Bakkarwala toll plaza in Delhi in July 2026. The Multi-Lane Free Flow system is currently operational at six locations, including Choryasi, Mundka, Daulatpura, Gharaunda, Manoharpur and Shahjahanpur.
NHAI introduced the digital facility after observing that residents within the 20-km radius were receiving e-notices for unpaid tolls, particularly as automated tolling reduced informal clearance at plazas. Eligible commuters are therefore encouraged to obtain the local pass through the RajmargYatra app to avoid penalties, which can include paying twice the applicable toll.
The updated list of 121 toll plazas is available on the RajmargYatra app, with new locations including Bartana in Haryana, Bharatkund in Uttar Pradesh, Bhramanapalli in Andhra Pradesh, Boothakudi in Tamil Nadu, Chikhalikala in Madhya Pradesh and Devkuli in Bihar.
