India Post has rolled out its IT 2.0 platform, called Advanced Postal Technology (APT), across the country. The initiative marks a major leap in the postal department’s digital journey under the Digital India mission. With this launch, one of India’s oldest institutions is stepping into a new role as a digitally empowered logistics and communication network.
What IT 2.0 Brings to the Table
The IT 2.0 system is designed to overhaul how postal services are delivered, making them faster, safer, and easier to access. Some of the key innovations include:
- Unified Digital Interface – a single platform for all postal services and transactions.
- QR Code Payments – instant and secure cashless payments by scanning a code.
- OTP-Based Delivery Verification – extra security for sensitive items through recipient identity checks.
- DIGIPIN – a new 10-digit alphanumeric postal ID to ensure accuracy and traceability in deliveries.
Made in India, for India
The entire platform has been developed by the Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology (CEPT). This makes it a fully indigenous solution, aligning with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision of self-reliance in technology.
Built on Strong Digital Infrastructure
The backbone of IT 2.0 is the MeghRaj 2.0 cloud, the government’s advanced cloud computing system. For nationwide connectivity, the project relies on BSNL’s extensive telecom network, ensuring that even remote post offices can operate seamlessly.
A Government Push for Digital Inclusion
The initiative has been launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia. It highlights the government’s focus on modernising public services while ensuring last-mile digital access for rural citizens.
