India’s First Bullet Train Nears Launch: Mumbai–Ahmedabad in Just Over 2 Hours
India is on the brink of a major transportation milestone as the country’s first bullet train service nears completion. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently announced that the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor will be operational soon, marking a new era in India’s railway infrastructure.

Once launched, the train will cover a distance of 508 km in just 2 hours and 7 minutes, reaching speeds of up to 320 km/h. This will drastically reduce travel time between two of western India’s busiest commercial cities and bring world-class travel efficiency to Indian railways.
Developed with Japanese Shinkansen technology under the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. (NHSRCL), the bullet train will not only boost economic activity along the corridor but also set the foundation for future high-speed rail projects in India.
Test runs and key infrastructure, including viaducts and stations, are already in advanced stages. Once operational, the bullet train is expected to redefine long-distance travel in India—combining speed, safety, and sustainability.
