Union IT and Electronics Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that India will roll out its first fully indigenous semiconductor chip in 2025. He made the announcement during the 85th foundation day celebration of Keshav Memorial Educational Society in Hyderabad.

India’s Growing Role in Chip Design and Manufacturing
Vaishnaw said India is becoming a major player in the global semiconductor sector. Currently, cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Gurugram, and Chennai are already designing some of the world’s most complex chips. Now, the focus has shifted to local manufacturing.
Six Semiconductor Plants Underway
The government has already approved six semiconductor manufacturing plants, and construction is in progress. The launch of the first Made-in-India chip marks a major step in India’s semiconductor mission.
AI Training for One Million People
As part of the India AI Mission, the minister said that free datasets and resources are being made available. The initiative aims to train one million people in artificial intelligence to prepare the workforce for future technologies.
Vision for Global Economic Position
Vaishnaw also expressed confidence that India will be among the world’s top two economies by 2047. He noted that global economic power is shifting from the West to the eastern hemisphere, with India playing a key role in this transformation.
