Mercedes-Benz India has committed an additional investment of ₹200 crore to strengthen its manufacturing and localisation operations in the country. The investment takes the German luxury carmaker’s cumulative investment in India to ₹3,200 crore.

The announcement comes as the company expands local production of its new electric GLC SUV at its Chakan manufacturing facility near Pune. The model is being assembled in India on a flexible production line that can accommodate both electric and internal combustion engine vehicles.
GLC EV Bookings Cross 1,000
The locally assembled Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric has received more than 1,000 bookings. The company has sold out its available allocations through March 2027 and is seeking additional production kits to meet demand and reduce waiting periods.
Launched in India at an introductory price of ₹78.5 lakh (ex-showroom), the GLC 400 4MATIC electric is built on Mercedes-Benz’s dedicated electric platform. Initial customer deliveries are scheduled to begin around Diwali.
India’s Growing Role in Mercedes-Benz’s Global Operations
Mercedes-Benz is looking to deepen its supplier network in India and explore opportunities to source components for its global operations. The company currently assembles more than 11 models at its Chakan plant and sources components such as engines and axles from Indian suppliers.
Its India-based research and development centre is also a key part of the company’s global engineering network. Mercedes-Benz sees further opportunities in manufacturing, technology, engineering and sourcing as the Indian luxury vehicle market expands.
