The Centre has sanctioned ₹988.75 crore for 39 road development projects across Kerala under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme. The projects will cover 486.33 km of roads across the state, with construction scheduled to begin in December 2026.
Kerala Public Works Minister P K Basheer announced the approval on October 31, stating that the allocation would support improvements to the state’s road infrastructure. The clearance followed discussions with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Of the total allocation, ₹570 crore has been earmarked for the Malabar region in north Kerala. This covers 21 projects across five districts: Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram.
The sanctioned works include major district roads, ordinary district roads and corporation roads. The state government has already granted administrative approval for the projects. Technical and financial clearances will be completed before construction begins.
The roads will be developed according to National Highway standards. The projects are expected to improve connectivity between rural and urban areas, upgrade road quality and strengthen transportation infrastructure across Kerala.
The allocation is part of the state’s efforts to improve regional connectivity and support economic activity through better road infrastructure.
