Telangana is seeking to attract Hyundai Motor Group to establish a car manufacturing plant in the state, while pushing to fast-track the company’s proposed ₹8,528-crore research and development (R&D) facility in Zaheerabad. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy made the pitch during a meeting with a Hyundai Motor India Engineering delegation led by Managing Director Changyeon Cho.

The proposed integrated global R&D centre and mega test facility will be developed across 678 acres at the National Investment and Manufacturing Zone in Zaheerabad, in Sangareddy district. The project carries an employment commitment of 4,276 jobs and is expected to begin groundwork in the coming months, according to the company’s update to the state government.
Revanth Reddy assured the Hyundai leadership of government support to expedite approvals and encouraged the group to consider Telangana for automobile manufacturing. He highlighted the state’s transport infrastructure, industrial clusters and plans for future connectivity as factors that could support large-scale manufacturing.
The move follows Hyundai Motor Group’s announcement of a $15.5-billion investment plan for India between 2026 and 2032. The investment is expected to cover manufacturing expansion, R&D, local supplier development and future mobility technologies through group companies, including Hyundai Motor India and Kia India.
Hyundai currently operates manufacturing facilities in Chennai and Pune, while Kia has a plant in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. The proposed Zaheerabad facility is expected to strengthen Hyderabad’s role as an engineering and technology hub, building on Hyundai Motor India Engineering’s existing presence in the city.
Telangana is positioning itself to attract further investment in the automotive and electric vehicle sectors as it seeks to expand its industrial base and create employment opportunities.
