Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Blue Line is set to provide a cheaper alternative to airport cab rides, which can cost around ₹1,500 for a trip to Kempegowda International Airport.

The 58-km Blue Line will connect Central Silk Board with Kempegowda International Airport, passing through major parts of the city and key employment hubs along the Outer Ring Road.
The corridor will open in phases. The Hebbal-KIA section is targeted for September 2027, while the Central Silk Board-KR Pura stretch is expected to begin commercial operations by mid-2027. The remaining KR Pura-Hebbal section is likely to be completed between December 2027 and March 2028.
The full Blue Line is expected to become operational by March 2028. Once the airport section opens, passengers from several parts of Bengaluru will have a direct Metro option to KIA, potentially reducing dependence on taxis and private vehicles.
The project is being developed along the busy Outer Ring Road and has faced challenges including traffic congestion, utility shifting, land constraints and station construction issues. The KR Pura-Hebbal section remains one of the more challenging stretches of the project.
The Blue Line will also introduce driverless Metro technology to Bengaluru. Its trains will use automated control and safety systems and undergo testing before passenger services begin.
The airport connection could significantly change how Bengaluru residents travel to KIA, offering a direct public transport option as the different sections of the Blue Line become operational.
