Delhi’s luxury hotels have turned into high-security diplomatic zones as leaders and delegations arrive for the 18th BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13. More than 3,000 hotel rooms have reportedly been booked across the capital for BRICS delegates, partner nations and senior international officials.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is staying at ITC Maurya, while Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to stay at Taj Palace, New Delhi. Both properties have made extensive security arrangements for the visiting leaders, with rooms at several luxury hotels sold out.
The Oberoi New Delhi is hosting delegations from Brazil, Kazakhstan, Ethiopia and Indonesia, besides preparing for Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The Taj Mahal Hotel is accommodating delegations from Uruguay, the Philippines, Cuba, Belarus and Vietnam, along with senior officials from the WHO and WTO.
Other prominent hotels including Le Méridien, The LaLiT New Delhi and Shangri-La Eros are also hosting BRICS member, partner-country and international delegations. Le Méridien is accommodating UN Secretary-General António Guterres and senior officials from international financial institutions.
The surge in demand has pushed room rates sharply higher at some properties, with certain luxury rooms reportedly crossing ₹2 lakh a night. The unprecedented concentration of global leaders and diplomats has effectively transformed Delhi’s luxury hospitality sector into an extension of the BRICS diplomatic infrastructure.
