Vishnu Chemicals Ltd has entered into a definitive joint venture agreement with France-based DCX Chrome SAS to establish a greenfield manufacturing facility for high-purity chromium metal in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

The two companies will hold an equal 50% stake in the proposed joint venture, which will have an installed production capacity of 6,000 metric tonnes per annum.
The project will combine DCX Chrome’s proprietary aluminothermic chromium production technology with Vishnu Chemicals’ expertise in chromium chemistry and integrated raw material capabilities. Vishnu Chemicals will supply chrome oxide green, a key raw material for the facility.
The high-purity chromium metal produced at the facility is expected to cater to strategic industries including aerospace, defence and energy, as well as other high-performance applications such as aircraft engines, superalloys and power equipment.
The venture is also expected to create a domestic source of high-purity chromium metal, reducing India’s dependence on imports for specialised applications while strengthening local manufacturing capabilities. A significant portion of the plant’s output is expected to be targeted at export markets.
DCX Chrome, part of France’s Delachaux Group, will contribute its metallurgical expertise, production technology and global customer relationships. Vishnu Chemicals will bring its manufacturing footprint, chromium value-chain capabilities and access to raw materials.
The proposed facility will be located near Vishnu Chemicals’ existing chromium operations and the Visakhapatnam port, providing access to both industrial infrastructure and export logistics.
The partnership comes as global demand for high-purity chromium continues to rise across aerospace, defence, energy and other advanced industrial sectors. The companies expect the venture to strengthen supply-chain resilience while expanding India’s capabilities in specialty and high-performance materials.
The joint venture marks a strategic move for Vishnu Chemicals into higher-value chromium metal production and gives DCX Chrome a manufacturing base in India to serve growing global demand.
