OHM Global Mobility has expanded Chennai’s electric public transport network with the launch of 130 new air-conditioned electric buses under Phase 2 of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s (MTC) electric bus programme.

The buses form the first batch of a larger 500-electric-bus deployment that OHM will supply and operate for MTC. The buses are manufactured by Switch, the electric vehicle subsidiary of Ashok Leyland.
The latest rollout builds on OHM’s Phase 1 operations in Chennai, where its electric buses have covered more than 3 crore kilometres. Its Phase 1 depots have also recorded over 99% schedule adherence.
The expansion is expected to strengthen Chennai’s zero-emission public transport network while offering commuters quieter and more comfortable journeys. OHM will also provide fleet operations and maintenance services as the remaining buses are deployed.
