Xiaomi is expanding its presence in India’s rapidly growing home appliances market with the launch of its Mijia sub-brand.

The company is positioning Mijia as its dedicated smart-home and lifestyle brand, bringing a broader range of connected appliances and household products to Indian consumers.
The move marks an important step in Xiaomi’s strategy to expand beyond its traditional strength in smartphones and personal electronics. The company already has a strong consumer base in India, which could provide Mijia with a ready market for its connected home products.
Mijia’s portfolio globally includes products across categories such as air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, kitchen appliances and other smart-home devices. Many of these products are designed to work within a connected ecosystem, allowing users to control and monitor devices through smart platforms.
India’s home appliance market has been attracting increasing interest from technology and electronics companies as consumers become more comfortable with connected devices. Rising disposable incomes, urbanisation and growing demand for convenience are also supporting the expansion of the smart-home segment.
With Mijia, Xiaomi aims to tap into this opportunity by offering products that combine smart connectivity, design and technology across multiple household categories.
The launch also strengthens Xiaomi’s broader ecosystem strategy in India. The company already sells smartphones, televisions, wearables, audio products and other connected devices in the country. Adding a larger portfolio of home appliances could allow Xiaomi to build a more comprehensive ecosystem around consumers’ daily lives.
The expansion comes at a time when competition in India’s consumer electronics and appliance market is intensifying, with both global and domestic brands investing heavily in connected and energy-efficient products.
For Xiaomi, the Mijia launch represents a push to establish itself not just as a smartphone and electronics brand, but as a broader smart-home technology company in the Indian market.
