India’s Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase I has crossed a major milestone, with more than 22,700 km of highways completed, taking the programme close to 90% completion. The flagship infrastructure initiative aims to strengthen freight movement, improve connectivity and reduce logistics costs across the country.
Among the best-performing states, Rajasthan has emerged as a leader, completing nearly 90% of its sanctioned Bharatmala network. The state’s rapid progress has helped accelerate the overall implementation of the national highway programme.
Launched to enhance economic corridors, border roads, coastal connectivity and expressways, Bharatmala is transforming India’s transport infrastructure. The expanded highway network is expected to improve connectivity between industrial hubs, ports, logistics parks and remote regions while supporting faster economic growth and more efficient movement of goods across the country.
